To make the bang bang shrimp, the cleaned and peeled shrimp is first soaked in buttermilk and then coated in a thick layer of cornflour.
You can also use panko crumbs as a coat for a crispier finish but for this recipe, we will be using cornflour.
The shrimp is then deep-fried to give it a crunch.
Once the shrimp are fried they are then coated in a ridiculously easy and creamy sauce which is what gives the shrimp dish its lip-smacking taste.

Medium-sized peeled and deveined shrimp

How to make bang bang shrimp.
If you are using fresh shrimp, clean, devein, and wash the shrimp.
Drain any excess water and pat dry with some paper towels.
How to marinate, coat and fry shrimp.
Add lime or white vinegar to a bowl of milk.
Stir for a few seconds, cover and let it rest for 5 minutes.
You will notice the milk turning thick this is your buttermilk.
While the buttermilk is made, add the cornstarch, salt to season and garlic powder(optional)to a platter.
Add the shrimp to the buttermilk and soak them for 10 minutes.
Hold the shrimp from its tail and shake to remove any excess buttermilk.
Immediately transfer it to the platter of cornstarch and completely coat the shrimps.
Once you’ve coated all the shrimp in cornstarch transfer them to a plate.
Place deep frying over the stovetop, and pour in the oil.
Bring the oil to medium heat where you can gently fry the shrimp in small batches.
